今天我们来看作文的第二个部分：续写。
首先要做的事肯定是看懂所给材料。需要留意的单词（不仅是对读懂该材料重要，还有可能是属于完形填空和语法填空或者阅读中重要。学习的目的一定不仅仅是为了写这篇作文，因为下一次不会再考同一篇了。而是举一反三，通过完成这个任务来提升自己考试拿分的能力。）整理出来：
spot 看见
swing swang swung 荡，甩
participate 参与 （part 部分，成为…….的一部分，即参与）
接下来要进行构思。所给材料交代了背景，学生需要发展剧情并写结尾。英语作文不同于语文作文，立意要新奇。英语作文只要顺着惯常的思路即可。
我常说，英语考试其它题目需要揣摩出题人的心思，而作文需要揣摩改卷人的心思。我们再来看看作文评卷要点。
下面是我指导的学生写的作文，大家看看可以有35分以上吗？
So I decided to have a talk with David,
encouraging him to participate in the cross-country run. His hesitation had made me guess that he didn't really want to quit running for this event. The coach was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him but I believed that David could get it over. Because he was launched at by others for not walking or running normally before but he not only survived but also became stronger mentally.
"Let me check your legs. Oh, they are more powerful than they were when I saw you last time." I talked with David in a relaxing voice. "How often did you exercise this week? Did you run more and faster?" David nodded his head and his eyes glowed, signalling that he actually expected to take part in the running competition, no matter he could win or lose.
"You want to try? " I hold his hand, trying to empower him in a way. "Let's go together and tell the coach this wonderful news. He will surely be proud of you!"
David and I walked hand in hand towards the coach, who was looking at us, smiling, and gave David a huge hug before let him join the team.
